Veyron pre-purchases two PPE plants 730,000 sq. ft. to be constructed for Ochsner + SafeSource Direct

BROUSSARD, LA – May 31, 2021 – Veyron concluded a transaction to purchase two new, to be developed, properties in Broussard, Louisiana. The development of these facilities was a joint venture between Ochsner Health and Trax Development, resulting in the creation of SafeSource Direct, a manufacturer of personal protective equipment (PPE).

SafeSource Direct will operate two manufacturing plants in Broussard. The first, an 330,000-square-foot facility in Lafayette Parish, serves as the company’s headquarters and produces surgical masks, bouffant hair covers, shoe covers, isolation gowns, and N95 masks. The second, a newly constructed 400,000-square-foot facility in St. Martin Parish, focuses on manufacturing nitrile rubber gloves. These facilities were established to address PPE supply chain challenges highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, aiming to provide a reliable domestic source of PPE and create over 2,200 jobs in the Acadiana region.

Governor John Bel Edwards praised the project, stating:

“Today’s announcement is not only a celebration of the new jobs SafeSource Direct will create and the economic activity it will generate, but also an opportunity to thank Ochsner and Trax for an investment that truly meets our novel moment. A year ago, states across the union were grappling with a shortage of personal protective equipment as the coronavirus spread. Even now, the need for PPE is great and that demand will continue for the foreseeable future. I am proud to say that, with this new project, Louisiana will play a key role in preventing the U.S. from facing such a shortage again.”
